The Situation

For 64 years, Barbara Hutchins lived a life of music, travel, and devotion alongside her late husband, Paul London of the band ‘Paul London and the Capers’. But since his passing in January 2024, Barbara’s life has turned into a living nightmare—not because of her health, but because of a calculated betrayal by her only son.

Under the false pretense that Barbara had dementia, her son obtained on July 23rd, 2025 guardianship and conservatorship. While Barbara was recovering from ankle surgery and a pacemaker procedure, he used that legal power to systematically strip her of everything.

The Reality

Despite what was told to the courts, Barbara is “sharp as a tack”. She recently passed a two-hour court-ordered psychological exam (IPE) with flying colors; the psychologist was blown away by her clarity, wit, and memory. Because of this, a judge has finally dismissed the guardianship and conservatorship—but the damage is already done.

Barbara is currently a “Woman Without a Country.” Her son has:

Drained her bank accounts: Over $300,000 in cash and life savings are gone. Her real estate property in Michigan and California totalling over 3 million dollars is at high risk because she does not have access to pay the loans, taxes, insurance and expenses.

Stolen her Identity: He has taken her Driver’s License, Passport, Social Security card, Birth Certificate, and Marriage License.

Rerouted her Income: Her Social Security and pension checks are being deposited into accounts she cannot access.

Left her Homeless: He failed to fix the plumbing in her home and has effectively left her in a temporary apartment with no personal belongings, no warm blankets, and no way to pay rent.

THE LATEST UPDATE: THE COURT HAS RULED

On December 1, 2025, Judge Miriam A. Cavanaugh of the Livingston County Probate Court (Case No. 25-23508-CA and 25-23524-GA) issued a final order. The guardianship and conservatorship over Barbara Hutchins have been TERMINATED.

The court found that Barbara is no longer in need of a guardian or conservator.

THE NIGHTMARE IS NOT OVER

While the legal “chains” have been broken, the bullying and financial devastation are far from over. Under the previous order, Barbara’s son, Paul Hutchins, took complete control of her life. Now that he has been removed as fiduciary, the court has ordered him to:

Return ALL assets to Barbara Hutchins immediately.

File a Final Account with the court no later than December 31, 2025. He has failed to follow this order.

Despite these clear judicial orders, Barbara remains in a state of “financial paralysis”. Her son still holds her identification (Driver’s License, Passport, Social Security card, Birth Certificate and Marriage License), has rerouted her monthly income to unknown accounts, and has yet to return a single dollar of the hundreds of thousands of dollars he removed from her accounts.

A MISSION OF ADVOCACY TURNED PERSONAL

This case began when Paul Hutchins reached out to Julie Hite, owner of Life2come Inc. (Life2come.com). Julie’s professional life is dedicated to aiding the elderly and supporting newly diagnosed dementia patients. Paul completely misled Julie, painting a false picture of an incapacitated mother in need of help.

Once Julie met Barbara, she realized the truth: Barbara was a sharp, competent woman being victimized by “Senior Bullying”. When Paul abandoned his mother’s needs—canceling her cardiology, orthopedic, and physical therapy appointments and leaving her without food or phone service—Julie stepped in.

To date, Julie Hite has personally funded Barbara’s entire existence and legal battle:

$13,556 in documented personal funds advanced for Barbara’s care, groceries, medicine, and survival which includes $7,500 for the initial legal retainer to fight the conservatorship.

Approximately $500 in cash transactions.

THE PLEA FOR HELP

Barbara Hutchins is 85 years old. She has spent the last year being treated like a prisoner by her own flesh and blood. She is currently living in a temporary apartment with no access to her own pension or Social Security.

We are raising $25,000 to bridge this gap while her legal team works to enforce the court’s order and cover:

Legal Fees: To file motions to compel the return of her stolen assets and identification.

Restore Barbara’s Dignity: Providing her with the furniture, communication tools (cable/internet), she has no television or computer. She listens to a radio alone in the apartment. She needs ID to set up Senior Transportation

Emergency Living Expenses: To cover rent and utilities so Barbara isn’t evicted while her income is frozen.

Basic Necessities: Food, warm clothing, and replacing the personal items taken from her home.

Identity Recovery: Funding the legal process of replacing her stolen Passport, Birth Certificate, and State ID. She cannot get any new ID without a Drivers License or Social Security card so she needs to hire additional legal help must get this within 30 days to access money in the bank. This expires on Feb 3rd so we may need to fight the bank legally too.

Medical Care: Ensuring she can see her specialists and afford her prescriptions.

“I am 85 years old. I should be enjoying the life my husband and I built. Instead, I am fighting for my dignity and my right to exist. I just want my life back.”

Update: We recently attended court and Barbara and her lawyer Ken Silver addressed the court. Paul Hutchins to attend and you can read that official court transcript here. Also, I have prepared a Forensic Fraud Report that is referenced in the court transcript and you can read the report here. We will update you more after the February 25th hearing. As you can imagine, we need to supeona more bank records and continue to pay the lawyer.

One more important note : Barbara still does not have access to her money! Huntington Bank is not giving her access to a debit card or the ability to write checks until Paul comes into the bank and removes himself from the shared account. She could open a new account, but that would mean that she would have to contact Social Security and the Pension company as well as her other recurring EFT payments.
